About the Programme: Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) is a complex and dynamic conservation concern that threatens ecosystems, causes biodiversity loss, risks human health, erodes culture, and undermines legitimate governance and economies. The Counter Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) Programme of WCS-India works to conserve wildlife threatened by IWT through evidence-based approaches and collaboration with stakeholders.
We are looking to hire two Junior Legal Consultants to develop reports and to update resource materials for projects related to illegal wildlife trade in India.
Location: Bengaluru (remote is also possible)

Duration: Minimum three months (extendable based on requirements)
Remuneration: Commensurate to industry and organizational standards

Roles:
Junior Legal Consultant (Project 1): Writing a report on legal frameworks for exotic (non-native) species trade and impacts in India, through mapping of stakeholders and analysis of national and international legislation, treaties, and policies (including the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, CITES, One Health policies, among others)
Junior Legal Consultant (Project 2): Amending/updating of current CWT manuals and legal resource materials to align with Amendments to the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. Assist in other research and resource material development regarding legislation and policies to countering IWT.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Bachelor's degree in law or field related to environment and wildlife

Understanding of Indian laws and policies related to wildlife

Prior experience in conducting legal/policy analysis

Good communication and writing skills
