The second module of the training workshop regarding
Capacity-Building of Officers and Staff of Kerala Forest Department Involved in Wildlife Monitoring in Collaboration with Wildlife Conservation Society – India was held at the WCS-India Bengaluru office on 21, 22 and 23 of October 2019.
Seven Wildlife Assistants (from Munnar Wildlife Division, Wayanad WLS, Parambikulam TR, Silent Valley NP, Shendurney WLS and Forest Head Quarters, Thriuvananthapuram) and two members of the Parambikulam Tiger Conservation Foundation attended the workshop.
In this module data entry & validation, processing, organization and storage aspects were covered in detail for camera trap, line transect, GPS and GIS data. The participants were also given a demonstration of WCS-India's tiger database using ExtractCompare. The WCS-India team and the participants also had a discussion on setting up Kerala Forest Department's tiger database using ExtractCompare; issues in using ExtractCompare and the data requirements for the database.
The training was conducted by Kiran Yadav, Srikanth Rao, Devcharan Jathanna and Killivalavan Rayar from WCS-India.
In August 2019, Devcharan and Killivalavan had conducted the first module of this training workshop on the overview & concepts underlying population estimation for the same participants at Parambikulam TR.
