On the occasion of International Leopard Day, Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Botanical Udyan and Zoo in association with Wildlife Conservation Society India organised educational activities for the visitors to raise awareness about leopard conservation efforts taken in Maharashtra. Camera trapping, use of telemetry collar for tracking a leopard were demonstrated by Researcher Nikit Surve, Wildlife Conservation Society and Director of Wildlife Conservation Society India Vidya Athreya educating people on how free ranging / wild leopards are tracked using technologies thereby protecting the leopards and help mitigate human animal conflict.
Dr. Vidya Athreya, Director of WCS India inaugurated the event with a burst of creativity- finger painting rossettes on a leopard drawing. Dr. Vidya Athreya’s transformative work in leopard conservation, tracking urban-dwelling leopards sheds light on the dynamics of human-leopard interactions.
