We work in partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations to deal with conservation challenges such as human-wildlife interaction, voluntary relocation of people from protected forest areas, combatting wildlife trafficking, conservation of endangered species and so on. About the position:
WCS-India is looking for an experienced, sincere and motivated individual to serve as a Legal Expert (Customs) at Bengaluru. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills including fluency in English and have a comprehensive understanding of customs laws in the country. It is also ideal if the candidate has prior hands on experience working on seizure cases related to exotic species under the Customs Act, 1962.
Specific Job Responsibilities include:
- Vet the material pertaining to Indian Customs Laws that is currently being worked on by WCS- India.
- Provide input on matters pertaining to the Customs Act and CITES.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills:
- Has a comprehensive understanding of Customs law in India
- Has previously worked on cases pertaining to exotic species/illegal smuggling
- Able to work independently
- Good communication skills
- Organization and time management skills
The expectation is for the candidate to be well versed with the substantive edicts and operating procedures of the Customs Act,1962, CITES and other instruments that pertain to the illegal trade in wildlife.
- Minimum Requirements: Customs officers/ experts who have worked on customs law before, having practical experience dealing with the same.
