The WCS-India Marine Program aims to conserve the unique diversity of India’s coastal habitats and seas by working with communities and partner organizations to overcome these challenges through a multidisciplinary approach. The program’s efforts are focused on five broad work streams: (1) strengthening the Marine Protected Area (MPA) / Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECM) network of India (2) reducing marine megafauna bycatch (3) curbing the decline of sharks and rays (4) incorporating sustainability into marine-centric tourism and supporting sustainable fisheries and (5) generating awareness on India’s marine biodiversity.
Background: The Marine Program at WCS-India is working on designing and launching a comprehensive web resource of information on India’s rich marine life, habitats, policies, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and other related aspects, supported by visual content like illustrations, images, maps, and videos. This virtual marine museum is expected to be a versatile, multiple-use resource for different audiences that wish to interact with or learn more about the oceans, providing a unique platform for engagement and awareness.
Responsibilities:

Assist with online and offline research to curate data and information for the Virtual Marine Museum.

Assist with the organization, maintenance, and updating of the image bank and information database, and related tasks.

Assist in the preparation of progress reports and updates.

Provide creative assistance, ideation, and inputs for social media-related tasks.

Work with the Project Associate to collaborate with the rest of the Marine Program and others for visual communication, and any community engagement initiatives.
Qualification & Requirements:
Experience and Knowledge:

A passion for and understanding of the marine ecosystem, and a background in conservation;

Familiarity with different social media and communication platforms a plus;

Good attention to detail, the ability to work and manage tasks independently while working with a larger team
Education:
Technical Skills:

Prior experience in science communications, outreach, and/or awareness activities desirable.

Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in other languages is a bonus

Proficiency in various forms of writing, editing, proofreading, fact-checking, and content curation
Compensation: Offered as per the qualification and experience.
